As a homeowner in Vintners Woods a Mungo development,  part of home expenses will be sewage.  The sewage bill in our area is calculated by the amount of water used by the household.  Now if your home has an irrigation system that waters the lawn during the summer months of the hot South Carolina summer,  you will also be paying for the sewage bill for the water used on your lawn.  Doesn't seem fair paying for water not going into the sewage system.

The solution to the problem is getting a separate meter for the irrigation system so you will only be charged for the water used indoors not on your lawn.  The cost to install a separate meter from the Town of Lexington can range from $270 - $455.  The lower amount for being inside the town limits and the higher for outside the town.  Additional costs to keep in mind is a back flow test.  From my personal experience since everyone uses different amounts of water, the meter paid for itself in a year and a half.  Having the additional meter reduced my bill from 2/3 to 1/2 from the original.

So if you plan to stay for a long time in your home and have an irrigation system, you may check into getting a separate meter for it.  Save money going down the sewer.
